Meet Ernesto
My name is Ernesto Querijero. I am a husband, father of two, and a career educator who is seeking re-election for to the Ann Arbor School Board this November 5th. I have lived in Ann Arbor for over 30 years, and because of my experiences both as a teacher and as a Trustee, I am the right candidate to serve our community in this role. I graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in English and from the University of Pennsylvania with an M.S. Ed in Secondary Education. I worked at the UM Institute for Social Research from 1997-2002, ultimately as a Computer Systems Consultant. I managed a help desk team, debugged & loaded computer software for release, and wrote software tutorials and conducted nationwide trainings for fellow employees. As an employee of the University of Michigan, I learned the value of a professional community and collaborated with others for a greater good.
I have 19 years teaching experience. My first teaching job was at Tecumseh High School from 2005-2013; I taught a variety of English classes from 9th grade to AP English. In my time there, I chaired the School Improvement Committee. In the role, I organized faculty professional development through the National Writing Project, represented THS at District-wide committee and Board meetings related to scheduling and common assessments, and developed programming to help students transition from eighth grade into high school. Eight years of service and teaching in Michigan’s K-12 Public School System provided me with an inside perspective of how public schools work and the day-to-day experiences of students, teachers, administrators, counselors, and other support staff.
I will always stand with long-term student learning. The role of public schools is to prepare students to be fair and responsible leaders, innovators, civil participants, and problem-solvers in the world to come, regardless of their passions and abilities. I will continue to advocate for student support, student access, and student self-advocacy. Public schools must support students in demonstrating their many understandings. We need to put students first! If elected, I will continue my advocacy for inclusion and representation and listen to the many community stakeholders who otherwise may go unseen and unheard. Support me for the Ann Arbor School Board on November 5th. I support a much-needed positive culture change that is student-focused, has transparent financial accounting, uses a DEI lens for decision-making, and upholds our commitment to the AAPS Sustainability Framework.
Thank you for your support!
